French/German Workshop on Single Crystal Superalloys

In the year of the French/German friendship, 50 years after Konrad Adenauer and Charles de Gaulle signed the Élysée Treaty, the SFB/Transregio 103 organizied a French/German workshop on Single Crystal Superalloys. The meeting was held on 20^th/21^st June at the premises of the Zentrum für IT Sicherheit, close to the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Superalloy researchers from France and Germany discussed technological and scientific aspects of superalloy single crystals. Special emphasis was placed on the elementary processes which govern the evolution of microstructure during processing (directional solidification and heat treatment) and during high temperature deformation. After the first day, the visitors from France had the possibility to visit the materials laboratories of the Ruhr-Universität. The participants of the workshop had a dinner together in Posts Lottental.
The workshop served as a platform for collaboration between the participants in the future. Upcoming events like the International Workshop on Advanced Co-Based Superalloys (22^nd/23^rd July, Pommersfelden, Germany), Euro Superalloys Conference (12^th – 16^th May, Giens, France) and Creep 2015 (Toulouse, France) were announced. The meeting ended after a light lunch of Friday, 23rd of July.
