A3 High temperature fatigue of single crystal superalloys

Aim of project A3 is elucidating the deformation and damage mechanisms occurring in single crystal superalloys, with and without protective coatings, under high temperature fatigue conditions. The key scientific questions are (i) where fatigue cracks initiate and (ii) which elementary deformation and damage processes govern crack initiation and propagation. The materials investigated are Ni- and Co-based - superalloy variants with different microstructural heterogeneity.
