A5 High temperature oxidation of single crystal superalloys – early stages and elementary processes
Project A5 investigates elementary processes of high-temperature oxidation of single crystalline superalloys, with a focus on novel Co-based alloys. More complex alloy systems will be studied. Combinatorial materials science approaches will help to identify oxidation resistant alloy compositions. In addition to conventional thermogravimetry, the focus will be on in situ oxidation studies in a low-vacuum SEM, 16O/18O oxidation experiments (SIMS), as well as high-resolution techniques (APT, TEM). The goal is to achieve an in-depth understanding of critical elementary reaction steps which govern oxidation.
